Rio de Janeiro – The Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the sum of all that is produced in the country, grew 0.5% in the second quarter of 2006, when compared to the previous quarter. In comparison to the same quarter last year, the growth was 1.2%. In both quarters, the Brazilian economy has accumulated growth of 2.2% when compared to the same period in 2005.
When compared to the previous quarter, the sector that grew most was agriculture and livestock, with 0.8% growth, followed by services (0.6%). Industry presented a reduction of 0.3%. The figures are part of the Quarterly National Figures, disclosed today by the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
