São Paulo – The Brazilian industries exported 212 million pairs of shoes last year, with an increase of 12% over the previous year. The information is from the Brazilian Association of Shoe Manufacturers (Abicalçados). In 2003, 188.6 million pairs of shoes were shipped.
The revenues, released in the beginning of January, was of US$ 1.809 billion, 17 % above 2003, when the industry had a turnover of US$ 1.549 billion. The leaders in purchases of Brazilian shoes were the United States (56.6%), United Kingdom (7.5%), Argentina (5.8%), Mexico (3.8%) and Canada (2.8%). The information was disclosed by the Brazilian Association of Shoe Manufacturers press advisory.
