São Paulo – Brazilian franchises posted R$ 103 million in revenues last year, according to figures released by the Brazilian Franchising Association (ABF). In 2011, revenues stood at R$ 89 million (US$ ), i.e. a 16.2% increase. The industry has also created 103,000 new direct jobs, up 12.3% from 2011, and employed 941,000 people.
The number of franchise networks operating in the country was also up, from 2,031 brands to 2,426. The number of units went from 93,098 to 104,543. According to the ABF, the fastest-growing industry was hotels and tourism, followed by cleaning and conservation, and then computing. The ABF estimates that franchises’ should see revenues increase by 16% in 2013. The number of new networks should be up 9%, and the number of new units should be up 11%.
