São Paulo – Business owners from several food companies from Mato Grosso do Sul state will attend the Gulfood fair, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in February of next year. The visit is being organized by the Trade and Industry Association of Campo Grande (Acicg).
According to Acicg’s manager for Foreign Trade, Bacel Omari, the goal of the trip is to make contacts and find buyers in the Arab countries. “It’s a trip to those that want to enter this market. The Gulfood is one of the world’s largest food fairs and the largest in the Middle East. It’s an opportunity for the business owners to negotiate with companies from the United Arab Emirates and other regions”, he said.
Omari pointed out that the United Arab Emirates is a product distribution hub for the Gulf countries and other Arab nations, such as Iraq and Jordan. Besides, he said that the country has free trade zones that offer the opportunity to export a product over there and then distribute it to other countries under tax exemption.
“We are motivated because Brazil’s currency exchange rate encourages actions like this, both because of the favorable exchange rate [to the exporter] and because of the local market [where revenues are smaller]”, said Omari. This won’t be the first time that Acicg organizes a trip with business owners to the Gulfood. “We were there around four years ago, with business owners that today find themselves in a more advanced stage [regarding business with Arab countries]. Our initial goal is to go visit the fair”, he said.
The Gulfood 2016 will take place between February 21st and 25th. In 2015, the fair welcomed more than five thousand exhibitors and 86,600 visitors. From the total, 36% were locals from the UAE and 64% from other 156 countries.
