São Paulo – Company Doctor Cooler has occupied a very attractive position in the Brazilian beverage market. With an exclusive patent for the production of portable equipment for the cooling of beverage cans, the company had revenues of 12 million Brazilian reals (US$ 6.8 million) in 2009, and the plan is to double the value for 2010. Exports are the main hope for growth.
Licensed to produce coolers under brands AmBev, Cartoon Network and Fox, as well as the main football clubs in the country, Doctor Cooler started its exports in April, with a shipment of products for beer brand Brahma shipped to AmBev in the Dominican Republic. The sale generated US$ 50,000 for the company.
Apart from beers, there are coolers under soft drink brands, like Pepsi and Guaraná Antarctica, and cartoons like Simpsons, Powerpuff Girls and Ben 10.
According to Gustavo Duque, the director at Doctor Cooler, the company is already making contact with other countries, like Chile, Argentina, South Africa and Australia. Contact has also been made with countries in Europe. "We are always trying to seek new markets,” he said. He believes that sales abroad may represent a good share of company growth. "They are new markets, that have not been worked. They are certainly going to contribute much for that,” he pointed out.
With regard to the Arab market, Duque says he still needs to learn more about the region, but he believes that there is space for his products. "I believe that it is interesting due to the climate,” he said, referring to the atmosphere in the Middle East and North Africa.
The executive reveals that the desire to export came together with the global expansion of Brahma, one of the Brazilian leaders in beer sales. "We are trying to accompany the Ambev exit into the global market.”
Doctor Cooler also offers the possibility of production of personalized coolers, with brands and logos of companies or products. That was how the company managed to attract the attention of a marketing company in the Dominican Republic. The organisation is interested in buying customized products. Doctor Cooler has just 23 employees and trades and distributes the coolers, being production outsourced.
The company is headquartered in Rio Claro, in the interior of the state of São Paulo, but sells its products all over the country, and is present in large chains like Walmart and Pão de Açúcar. Outside Brazil, Doctor Cooler has already participated in a fair in Argentina, and is now studying the possibility of going to an event in Mexico. "We have contacts with Brazilians who believe our products have potential for trade abroad," said Duque, explaining that the company is being sought by potential foreign clients who learn about the products from Brazilians.
Apart from coolers made out of polypropylene and expanded polystyrene, the company also trades draft beer coolers, CD holders in the shape of cans, polystyrene coolers and table coolers, among other products.
