Rio de Janeiro – The amount of funds disbursed by the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES, in the Portuguese acronym) was up 67% in the first five months of 2013 from the same period in 2012, to R$ 73 billion (US$ 32 billion). The bank released the figures this Thursday (11th).
The increase took place across all sectors covered by the institution, attesting to the continuation of investment in the economy, in the assessment of the BNDES. In May, the Bank disbursed R$ 18.6 billion (US$ 8.2 billion), up 93% from May 2012.
From January through May this year, disbursements increased the most to the industry (123%), which received R$ 25.8 billion (US$ 11.4 billion). Micro, small and medium businesses received R$ 27.4 billion (US$ 12 billion). The amount is up 60% from January through May 2012.
