Rio de Janeiro – Spending by Brazilian nuclear power company Eletronuclear in the resumption of construction work at the Angra 3 Nuclear Plant should total approximately 700 million reals (US$ 391 million) this year, said to Agência Brasil the company`s manager of Planning and Budget, Roberto Travassos.
The work is in a phase of slab building and concrete laying, and the foundation for the reactor building is being laid, starting with the granting of the building license by the National Nuclear Energy Commission (Cnen) on May 31 this year. The plant is expected to be concluded by 2015. Commercial operation should start on December 1st of that same year.
Travassos informed that this year, contracts worth 2 billion reals (US$ 1.1 billion) should be signed, 550 million reals (US$ 309 million) out of which concern project engineering and planning support services, and 1.4 billion reals (US$ 78 million) concern electric-mechanical assembly whose tender call should be issued by Eletronuclear on the next 30 or 40 days. “This year, we should sign contracts totalling 2 billion reals in the domestic market alone,” said Travassos.
In August or September, the state-owned company should also sign a contract with the nuclear company Areva, based in France, totalling 1.2 billion euros for the supply of foreign services and equipment to the plant. The manager explained that the contracts are valid for up to 60 months. In 2011, a few other tenders should be issued on the domestic market, totalling 3 billion reals. Overall, the building of Angra 3 is estimated at 9 billion reals (US$ 502 million).
