Brasília – As of this Tuesday (5th) goods sold from Brazil to foreign countries can be shipped more swiftly. The Federal Revenue has simplified the export clearance system by automatizing the submission of document and reducing the requirements for clarifications to be made. According to the Revenue, the changes will cut down the average time for clearing exports from 3.19 days (approximately three days and five hours) to 2.12 days (around two days and two hours).
Formerly, the Revenue required for an export statement and other instruction documents to be submitted for all foreign sales. Now, the documents will only be required in case the products at hand are selected for the orange or red channels, which must be checked at customs. According to the Revenue, only 12% of customs statements pass through these channels. For goods shipped through the green channel, which comprise 88% of all exports, clearance will be automatic.
In addition to reducing the requirements, the Revenue has automatized the document submission process. Submission will be made electronically, eliminating the need for the exporter or a representative to go to a customs office in order to present the papers beforehand. The Revenue estimates that the new system will eliminate the need for 90,000 visits per month at customs offices. According to the Revenue, the changes will enable more efficient human resource management.
