Rio de Janeiro – Families’ Consumption Intent was up 9.7% year-on-year in January to 83.6 points. In January from December 2017, the index was up 2.3%, Brazil’s National Confederation of Trade (CNC, in the Portuguese acronym) reported this Wednesday (17).
The January score is lower than the so-called ‘zone of indifference’ threshold, which is 100 points. Still it indicates “a slow recovery of optimism from families,” CNC economic advisor Juliana Serapio said.
Serapio also said “consumers’ assessment of the economy are still improving, but debt levels, especially in lower-income families, leads to cautious spending, thereby restricting consumption.”
