São Paulo – Last week, Brazil’s Federal House of Representatives approved two agreements signed by Brazil and Arab countries, according to information released on Friday (9th) by the Foreign Ministry. The first agreement is a treaty for technical cooperation signed with the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) during a visit of the then-president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to the West Bank in March 2010.
The treaty provides for the continuation of ongoing actions in urbanization and public communications, and for new ventures in other sectors such as agriculture and livestock, healthcare, sports, education and elections. The treaty authorizes the participation of public organizations, private organizations, and non-government organizations (NGOs).
The other agreement concerns cultural cooperation with Algeria and was signed in May 2009. The document provides for the exchange of experiences and projects in activities such as cinema, fine arts, theatre, music, research, libraries and museums. The agreement also sets forth that a Joint Cultural Committee be establish to bring about the bilateral initiatives.
The two treaties will now be submitted to the Federal Senate.
