São Paulo – This Wednesday (14th), the United Nations inaugurated the House of United Nations in Brazil –Sérgio Vieira de Mello Complex, in Brasília. The first module in the complex will house agencies such as the United Nations Development Programme (Undp), the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), the United Nations Volunteers programme (VNU) and the Montreal Protocol. The information was released on the UN website.
In the project’s next phase, a second module will be built to host the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA), the United Nations Internet Gateway on the Advancement and Empowerment of Women (UN Women), the United Nations Environment Programme (Unep) and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (Unaids).
“In addition to four other agencies that will join the complex soon, the House of UN in Brazil is planned to host further agencies, a South-South Cooperation Centre, and an auditorium,” said Jorge Chediek, the UN System’s resident coordinator in Brazil, and Undp resident-representative in the country.
