São Paulo — Rizkallah Aoun, assistant university librarian at the Digital Development Center of the Library of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) in Lebanon, met with the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC)’s immigration heritage project team on Tuesday (13) in São Paulo. Aoun also attended an event at the Brazilian Cinematheque last week as part of his visit to Brazil.
The Arab Immigration Memory Digitization Project digitizes physical documents owned by individuals and institutions and makes them available for research on a USEK platform. Those who lend their documents also receive digital copies.
During his visit, Aoun met with the ABCC’s Vice President of Marketing & Communication, Silvia Antibas, and members of the project, a partnership between the ABCC, USEK and the Edward Said Chair of Contemporary Studies at the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp).
“I was impressed by the team because its members come from very different fields but are united by a single purpose: preserving heritage,” Aoun said. “We also need to understand that content migration will be an ongoing process. We now use a particular format or structure to store files, but in 10 years, we will probably need to adopt another. As a result, we will have to migrate these digitized materials again to a new format or technological environment,” Aoun said during a visit that ended Wednesday (14).
