São Paulo – Industry was the leading receiver of disbursements from the National Development Bank (BNDES) from January to October. According to data disclosed today (9th) by the bank, the industry accounted for 38.9% of the total, followed by infrastructure (35.7%), trade and services (18.4%) and agriculture (7%). As a whole, 116.1 billion Brazilian reals (US$ 68.3 billion) were cleared during the period, an increase of 43% over the first ten months of last year.
The figures do not include two disbursements from the BNDES to Petrobras, in 2009 in 2010, of respectively 25 billion reals (US$ 14.7 billion) and 24.7 billion reals (US$ 14.6 billion). Disregarding these operations, credit to the industry has grown by 36% from January to October this year. Disbursements to the sector had a particular increase starting in August.
The highest increments were recorded in textiles and clothing, food and beverages, chemicals and petrochemicals, and mechanics. In infrastructure, the segments that received the most funds were road transport and electricity generation.
