Rio de Janeiro – The Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), the official measure of inflation in Brazil, was 2.21% year-to-date through October this year, in its lowest score since 1.44% through October 1998. The new IPCA result is down 3.57 percentage points down from 5.78% January to October 2016.
The numbers were made public this Friday (10) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). In October from September, the IPCA rate climbed 0.42%, up 0.26 percentage point from its 0.16% hike in September from August.
According to the IBGE, the pickup in inflation in October came from the cost of electrical energy, which the federal government raised by 3.28%.
