São Paulo – The World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the Economic Policy Development Forum (EPDF) should promote the Arab Consultation Forum, on the 11th, in Amman, Jordan. The event should take place at Thalal Abu-Ghazaleh University and should cover themes related to trade in the Arab world.
The forum should include the participation of Pascal Lamy, director-general of the WTO, Hatem Al-Halawani, minister of Industry and Trade of Jordan, Hamad Al-Kuwati, minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage of Qatar, and Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, EPDF chairman and WTO member. EPDF is an independent organisation, established in June 2011 to promote economic studies.
The main topics to be discussed at the event include the function of trade for global development, regional trade treaties, the position of the Arab world in the multilateral trade system, barriers to financial trade, commercial product chains, technological development and the impact trade has on people.
Among the participants will be ministers, specialists in trade, industry, finance and planning, executives of chambers of commerce, central banks, economic organisations, as well as businessmen and representatives of the Arab countries at the WTO.
The event should include a panel open to all participants and also roundtables for guests, at which Lamy, Abu-Ghazaleh and two representatives of each Arab country will discuss the future of global trade.
Perspectives for global trade will also be the theme of the talk by the WTO director general, to take place at the University of Jordan at the closing of the forum.
