São Paulo – Libya has started the second phase of one of its main gas exploration project, Al-Jorf field. According to information disclosed by the African Panapress news agency, up to now 43% of the project have already been concluded.
It is developed by Mabrouk, which belongs to the National Oil Company (NOC). The area covers 120 square kilometres and reserves total 257 million barrels of crude oil, 31 billion cubic feet of petroleum gas and 131 billion cubic feet of natural gas.
The field may produce up to 106 million cubic feet of gas liquids a day. In terms of oil, extraction may reach 30,000 barrels a day. The field has a total of 16 wells.
Mabrouk has announced that it also plans to explore other areas, like the Al-Dohra and Gharyane fields, in Libya, to expand production.
Libya has oil and gas as its main export products, together with chemical products and oil products. The country has proven reserves of 43.66 billion barrels of oil and a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of US$ 60 billion.
