Rabat – Morocco welcomed 3.4 million foreign tourists from January to April 2018, up 12% from a year ago, Moroccan news outlet MAP quoted National Tourism Observatory as reporting this week.
MAP said tourist numbers climbed 19%, while the number of Moroccan expatriates visiting their home country was up 1%. Out of the leading issuer countries, numbers increased the most from Italy (18%), Germany (14%), France (11%), the UK and the Netherlands (10% each).
Nights spent in hotels was up 10% in the first four months of this year, with tourist hubs Marrakech (pictured above) and Agadir accounting for 61% of total stays.
Revenue from non-resident tourists reached MAD 21.1 billion (USD 2.2 billion), up 18% year-on-year.
In April alone, tourist inflows to Morocco saw a 4% year-on-year increase.
