São Paulo – The 25th National Foreign Trade Meeting (Enaex) begins today (23), at Glória Hotel, in Rio de Janeiro. Up to Friday (25), over 3,000 businessmen will discuss a main theme: "Foreign trade policy after the economic opening: competitiveness as a determining objective".
Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the minister of Cities, Marcio Fortes de Almeida, will be present at the opening of the forum, at 03:00 pm. The minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Luiz Fernando Furlan, and the minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Roberto Rodrigues, will also participate in the debates of the event.
Apart from talks and debates, there will be space for institutions and companies. The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce will have a stand at the event to provide information regarding the 22 Arab countries, as well as information about the business opportunities and routes to export to the region.
According to information provided by the Brazilian Foreign Trade Association (AEB), which promotes the Enaex, the meeting will be an opportunity for dialogue between businessmen and the government. The topics to be discussed will be the main bottlenecks to the expansion of exports, among them the infrastructure deficiencies in the country.
At the event closing ceremony, the businessmen will deliver to the governor of the Brazilian Central Bank, Henrique Meireles, a proposal for foreign exchange reform. The document was elaborated by various business organizations, led by the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp) and Foreign Trade Studies Centre Foundation (Funcex).
