Rio de Janeiro – The Brazilian state-owned oil company Petrobras should reach an all-time high in oil production this month. According to estimates disclosed today (30th) the output should be around 2.1 million barrels per day. The previous record had been set in April, at 2/033 million barrels per day. According to Petrobras, should the result be confirmed, then the production volume in the last month of the year will be 6.7% higher than in December 2009 and 4.4% higher than in November this year, when the output reached 2.030 million barrels of oil per day.
In a statement issued to the press and to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Petrobras informs that in addition to the monthly record, another daily record high was set: on December 27th, oil production reached 2.256 million barrels. According to the statement, the company will end 2010 with a production level higher than 2 million barrels per day (2.003 million barrels per day), yet another annual record.
Petrobras explains that the performance is mostly due to the entry into operation, in December, of five new wells at the Campos Basin, which enabled more than 100,000 barrels per day to be added to the company’s output in Brazil. Areas in North and Northeast Brazil and in the state of Espírito Santo have also contributed, as well as the entry into operation of well SPS-55, which recently kicked off the Long Term Testing of the Guará area, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin.
