Rio de Janeiro – Petrobras informed today (7) that it should anticipate production of oil in the pre-salt layer in Santos Basin. For such, the company approved the chartering of two new FPSO (floating production, storage and offloading) platforms for the pilot projects in the Guará Norte and Cernambi blocks.
In a statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the state-owned company informs that each platform will have capacity for production of 150,000 barrels of oil a day and 8 million cubic metres of gas.
The forecast is for them to start operating in 2014. Originally, the platforms were to start operating only after 2014, according to the company.
Petrobras adds that the decision of chartering the platforms was taken by the consortia that operate in the bloc, to make possible anticipation of production by these areas due to the "excellent" results of initial tests.
The consortium for block BMS-9 (Guará-Norte) is operated by Petrobras (45%) in partnership with BG Group (30%) and Repsol Brasil (25%). The consortium operating block BMS-11 (Cernambi) is controlled by Petrobras (65%), and has as partners BG Group (25%) and Galp Energia (10%).
