Brasília – The inflation rate measured by the Extended National Consumer Price Index – 15 (IPCA-15) came in with a negative variation of 0.18% in July, a figure 0.34 percentage point below June’s results, when there was a positive variation of 0.16%. In July of last year, the rate had gone up 0.54%.
According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), who made public the data of the so called preliminary IPCA – the official inflation rate –, this is the lowest negative variation for July since 2003, when it the same number was registered. Before, the lowest negative variation was registered in September of 1998 at -0.44%.
With July’s deflation, the IPCA-15 has now gone up 1.44% in the first seven months of the year, down 3.75 percentage points in comparison to the 5.19% of the same period of last year. Meanwhile, the year-over-year inflation stood at 2.78%, below the 3.52% of the previous year-over-year results, which represents the lowest year-over-year variation since March 1999, when it was of 2.64%.
