São Paulo – Aleppo International Airport in Syria welcomed a flight operated by Kuwait’s Jazeera Airways on Thursday (25), marking the launch of a regular direct route and the latest effort to expand Aleppo’s air connectivity, Syrian state news agency SANA reported.
The aircraft arrived from Kuwait International Airport carrying 120 passengers. Walid al-Ahmad, Director of Public Relations at Aleppo International Airport, said Jazeera Airways will initially operate two weekly flights to Aleppo, with service expected to increase to three weekly flights starting on July 21.
Fidaa Khalil, Jazeera Airways’ general sales agent in Syria, said the airline plans to add Deir Ezzor to its Syrian destinations on July 25. In addition to Aleppo, the carrier already operates flights to the capital, Damascus. Deir Ezzor is a major city in eastern Syria, while Aleppo, another of the country’s largest cities, is located in the north.
Mustafa Khairallah, Head of the Media Department at Syrian Civil Aviation and Air Transport Authority, said the new Kuwait–Aleppo route is part of efforts to expand air connectivity and attract more regional and international airlines to the Syrian city. Syria’s Ministry of Transport is working to expand the country’s air links through partnerships with airlines.
