Brasília – The Brazilian trade surplus totalled US$ 3.074 billion in August, as a result of US$ 13.841 billion in exports and US$ 10.767 billion in imports, as informed today (01) by the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade. In the same period last year, the surplus was lower: US$ 2.3 billion. In July this year, the trade surplus was US$ 2.927 billion.
From January to August this year, the trade surplus was US$ 19.968 billion, a figure 18% higher than recorded in the same period of 2008 (US$ 16.928 billion). The accumulated surplus resulted from exports worth US$ 97.935 billion and imports worth US$ 77.967 billion.
