São Paulo – As of this Wednesday (28), citizens and visitors will no longer need to wear masks in closed public spaces in the United Arab Emirates, according to an announcement this Monday (26) by the National Crisis and Disaster Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) divulged by local media.
According to the new measure, masks will continue to be mandatory only in religious services, hospitals, and public transport. In schools, it will be optional. The use of masks was required in all closed collective places, including restaurants and cafeterias, two and a half years ago.
Those with suspected cases of COVID-19 or with chronic diseases are recommended to use the protection. PCR tests are now mandatory only for people with symptoms or who have had contact with infected people. Those infected are required to stay isolated for five days.
Concerning air travel, airlines will individually decide whether masks will still be required on board. For arrivals from outside the country, the rules will remain. For departures, however, each traveler must follow the rules of the flight’s destination country.
The UAE will no longer disclose the number of people infected with COVID-19 daily. Until this Sunday (25), the number of infections in the country since the pandemic outbreak totaled 1.02 million people. The number of coronavirus deaths in the country was 2,343.
