Rio de Janeiro – The unemployment rate in Brazil reached 12.3% in the three months through May, as per data of the national household sampling survey (Pnad), released this Friday (28) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The rate is lower than the one posted in the three months through February (12.4%). In the three months through May 2018, it was 12.7%.
According to IBGE, 13 million people were unemployed, statistically flat from the previous three months and from a year ago. However, the number of workers with jobs (92.4 million people) grew in both comparatives: 1.2% (1.07 million people) over the previous three months and 2.6% (2.36 million people) year-over-year.
