São Paulo – Brazilian mining company Vale produced 2.4 million tons of pellets in Oman in the first quarter of the year, a 3.7% drop from Q4 2016. It said output at its Sohar plant dropped due to a scheduled maintenance shutdown that lasted 10 days.
Year-on-year in Q1, Vale’s Middle East plant put out 22.6% more pellets. The company imputes the growth to increased productivity and to a 30-day maintenance shutdown in January 2016.
Across all its manufacturing units, Vale’s pellets output was down 1.6% in Q1 from Q4 2016, to 12.4 million tons. Year-on-year output was up 4.1%.
