São Paulo – Businessmen from Sudan and Egypt are in the city of Ribeirão Preto this week, looking for business opportunities at the 20th edition of Brazil’s premier agribusiness fair, Agrishow. The 10 Sudanese and one Egyptian are attending the event by invitation of trading company Via Montex, based in São José dos Campos, looking for services and equipment. Their visit to Brazil, however, should not be restricted to the fair. They should pay visits to companies and farms this week.
According to the Via Montex international marketing manager Nicholas Lopez, the Sudanese are seeking crop management services and equipment such as center-pivot systems, drip irrigation systems, windpumps and machinery for maize and soy crops. “They want to see and buy Brazilian technology. There are some deals lined up, but none closed yet,” said Lopez.
The delegation that is already in Ribeirão Preto comprises one Egyptian and four Sudanese from companies such as Prosperity Sudan. This Wednesday (1st) a group of six other Sudanese will arrive from Fortaleza, Ceará. The group includes the minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Faisal Hassan.
Lopez said the Sudanese at Agrishow should also pay a visit to a goat farm and a slaughterhouse in the city of Bauru. The schedule includes a visit to aircraft manufacturing company Embraer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos.
The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce has a booth at the show to serve Arab importers and Brazilian companies interested in exporting to countries in the Middle East and North Africa. The Chamber’s business executive Hans Lima, who is attending Agrishow, said there are several opportunities available. “Exports to Arab countries can increase, as can the range of products we sell them.”
Agrishow features 790 exhibitors and covers 440,000 square metres. At least 2,500 foreign visitors will attend the fair, which will include international business matchmaking rounds and is expected to result in deals worth a combined R$ 2.5 billion (US$ 1.24 billion). Agrishow should receive 152,000 visitors.
