São Paulo – Beef exports from Brazil were up 12.1% in the first half of this year. Raw and processed beef sales amounted to 712,000 tons, up from 635,000 tons in H1 2015. The numbers are from the Ministry of Development, Industry and Services and were released by the Brazilian Meat Packers Association (Abrafrigo).
Export revenues remained nearly unchanged, from USD 2.7 billion in H1 2015 to USD 2.722 billion in H1 2016.
Egypt was the second leading buyer of Brazilian beef. The Arab North African country imported 110,800 tons from January to June 2016, up 20% from 92.335 tons in H1 of last year.
The top importer was Hong Kong, at 157,545 tons. Russia placed third, but its imports fell 27% from 95,805 tons of Brazilian beef in H1 2015 to 69,312 tons in H1 2016.
In June alone, 122,276 tons of beef were exported from Brazil, a 12% increase over June of 2015, with revenues down 2% from June 2015 to USD 472 million.
