Brasília – Last year, 19.54 million new mobile phone lines were sold in Brazil, which represents growth of 8.07% in the subscriber base. The country ended 2012 with 261.78 million mobile phone lines operating.
According to the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), the mobile phone penetration density has reached 132.78 phones per group of 100 inhabitants. Of the total lines in operation, 80.53% are pay-as-you-go and 19.47% are post-paid. Mobile broad band (3G) terminals totalled 59.19 million.
Operator Vivo is the market leader, with a 29.08% market share, followed by TIM, with 26.87%, Claro, with 24.92%, Oi, with 18.81%, CTBC, with 0.28%, and Sercomtel, with 0.03%.
