São Paulo – Brazil is one of the 40 laboratory product manufacturing countries that will be present at Medlab, the industry’s leading show in the Middle East and North Africa, to take place from February 6 to 9 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Five Brazilian companies will exhibit their products and services in the national pavilion, organized by the Brazilian Health Devices (BHD), the sectoral project of the Brazilian Medical Devices Manufacturers Association (ABIMO) in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil).
The four-day show is expected to host over 20,000 visitors that will get to know more than 700 exhibitors. “Last year, from January to November, the laboratory companies that are members of the BHD exported USD 1.34 million in products. The possibility to be face to face to some of its major buyers and distributors is essential for any company interested in expanding their global reach,” ABIMO Project and International Marketing manager Larissa Gomes was quoted as saying in a statement.
Among the Brazilian companies that will be at Medlab, the Kolplast Group, which gained notoriety during the COVID-19 pandemic, is optimistic to broaden its reach in countries in Europe and South America, as well as the United States. “We are manufacturers, and our brand is very well-positioned. During the pandemic, when nobody had any products to carry out tests for the novel coronavirus, we were the first company to manufacture swabs and contribute to the country’s supply,” Fernanda Priori, the brand’s Sales manager, was quoted as saying in the statement.
Kolplast also manufactures gel and other chemical products, gynecological materials, diagnostic and laboratory reagents, laboratory tests, other laboratory and pharmacy items, and colposcopes.
The other four participating companies are Bioclin, which manufactures diagnostic and laboratory reagents, laboratory tests, and photometers; Biotecno, of monitoring systems and devices, and scientific refrigerators and freezers; and Labtest, of apparatus and instrumetns for clinical analyses, diagnostic and laboratory reagents, laboratory tests, and other laboratory and pharmacy items; and Maquira, which manufactures biocompatible resins for 3D printing and general use in dentistry, jewelry, general prototyping, temporary crowns, inlay and onlay, autoclavable surgical guides, myorelaxation plates, models, dies, gum models, castables, etc.
The show promotes the meeting of sellers and buyers from across the world, but since it is held in the United Arab Emirates, it has a strong presence in the Middle East, a region where Brazilian products have gained more and more relevance.
One of the leading indicators of this growth is that from January to November 2022, Brazil exported USD 20 million worth of medical devices to the region, up 47.16% from a year earlier. “The BHD member companies, which have already been dedicated to internationalizing, saw a growth of 26.43%, an equally encouraging figure,” Gomes finished.
