Radwan Raad, who has been based in the city of Curitiba for around six years, is working on propagating art made in the Arab countries among the Brazilians. From Syria and Lebanon he brings from towels to items made out of marquetry and wall carpets. Raad has a shop in the southern Brazilian state of Paraná and is participating in Artnor, a handicraft fair that continues up to Sunday, in Maceió, capital of the northeastern Brazilian state of Alagoas.

Four products that were awarded prizes in different competitions in Brazil and abroad are printed on 2.4 million stamps released by the Brazilian Postal Services in December. Amongst them are the lamp Luna, created by the designer Fernando Prado and winner of an award in Germany. One of the objectives of the initiative is to promote national art.

For three years the Arab Syrian Cultural Centre, in São Paulo, has offered courses of the oriental language for free. In the beginning there were 40 pupils, one room and one teacher. Currently there are 450 pupils, four classrooms and three teachers. The majority of the pupils are not Arab descendants.
