Study launched by the Food and Agriculture Organization shows that access to farm machinery is difficult due to the small size of properties in North Africa. Egypt is the country with most tractors in the region.
Grupo Fuga, company from the city of Marau, in the south of Brazil, produces leather and beef, among other products. They have made sporadic shipments to Egypt, but the company believes the region has great business potential.

According to a study by the Brazilian Coffee Exporters’ Council, volume shipped to the countries in the Middle East and North Africa increased by 36% in 2013.
Foreign sales in the sector registered an increase of US$ 4.16 billion last year in relation to 2012. The soy complex represented the greatest part of the revenue and China was responsible for the increase achieved.
The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture has opened for public consultation the new fertilizer analysis manual. It establishes criteria for controlling national and imported products sold in Brazil.
According to the UN agency, the Food Price Index in December remained ‘nearly unchanged’ in relation to November. In 2013, the index was lower than in the two previous years.
The 2013/2014 grain harvest is expected to reach 200 million tons, according to the Ministry of Agriculture. The National Supply Company had forecasted 196.7 million tons, but soy crops may help improve this volume.
Brazilian poultry exports increased by 3.4% in 2013. The volume shipped, however, decreased by 0.7% in relation to 2012.
The two countries, plus Lebanon, ranked among the suppliers of the product to the Brazilian market in the last crop. They shipped a combined 194 tonnes from October 2012 to September 2013.
The latest forecast from Brazil’s National Supply Company for this year’s harvest indicates a 3.3% decline from the past crop.
