Foreign sales averaged USD 895.6 million a day in the first week of May, the Brazilian Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services. The country registered a USD 997 million surplus.

Brazil’s IBGE, National Treasury and Central Bank reported that the federal government had a net operating loss of BRL 512.2 billion in 2015. In 2014, the deficit had been equivalent to 4.9% of GDP.

Exports exceeded imports by almost USD 7 billion, the highest such gap since April 1989. Foreign sales reached USD 17.686 billion, with foreign purchases amounting to USD 10.717 billion.
