São Paulo – Couromoda, the International Shoes, Sportsgoods and Leathergoods Fair, should take place next month in the city of São Paulo aiming to receive 3,000 importers from 60 countries, according to information disclosed by the organisation. The exhibition is a traditional point for buyers from abroad and receives Arab importers. In the 2013 edition, the fair should take place from January 14th to 17th, with the exhibition of 3,500 brands and an estimated 85,000 visitors.
Couromoda is at its 40th edition and is responsible for the turnover of 35% of annual sales in the sector. Brazil is a great producer of shoes and, last year, made 820 million pairs of shoes. Sector revenues as a whole generate US$ 13 billion for the Brazilian economy. Most of the shoes produced – 50% – are female. The country, albeit, also makes shoes for men, 21%, and also genderless, children’s and baby shoes.
The 2013 fair should take place alongside the São Paulo Prêt-à-Porter, an international fair turned to garments, which should increase the attraction potential of both events. The idea is to allow retailers to make use of both fairs to make their purchases, as São Paulo Prêt-à-Porter should take place from January 13th to 16th, at the Expo Center Norte. Both should be promoted by the Couromoda Group and should inject US$ 100 million in the economy of São Paulo.
Couromoda presents novelties in the shoe and accessory industry for the 2013 autumn/winter collection. It is, according to the organisation, the largest fair for fashion releases and development of shoe sector business in the Americas. The products presented range from shoes and handbags to equipment for retailers, sports articles, raw material and technology for the shoe industry, among others.
Apart from a point of sale, the fair is an opportunity for talks regarding the sector. On January 13th the Brazilian Shoe Congress is scheduled to take place at Holiday Inn Hotel, in Anhembi Park. One of the main retailers in the United States, Maurice Breton, should head the talks that day, starting at 2:00 pm.
