São Paulo – Ungerminated seeds, natural fibre, wood scraps, bone, horn and mother-of-pearl are the main raw materials used by costume jewellery and accessory brand Mãos da Terra, established one year ago in São José do Rio Preto, in the interior of São Paulo. Despite internationalisation of the brand still being recent, the company has already exported to Germany, is in final negotiations with importers from England and Greece and continues seeking new clients abroad.
“Our objective is for 60% of our production to be sold on the foreign market. The Arab nations are among the countries to which we believe there is great potential for our products,” said Paula Santos, one of the partners at the company. "We plan to sell our products to several countries like the Emirates, France, Belgium, Japan and the United States,” said Paula.
According to her, the company was designed aiming at exports, from raw material to packages. “We have a person almost 100% dedicated to contacts with potential clients. At the end of June, during a trip programmed to Europe, we made contact with new importers,” he finished off.
“We have been greatly praised for the quality of our collections. It is common to hear from buyers that they did not expect to find design aligned to ecological products and fashion in Brazil,” he pointed out. Soon, the company plans to participate in fairs abroad, like Bijorca, which takes place in September, in Paris.
Mãos da Terra has a production unit in the city of Marília, in São Paulo, where four people assemble around 800 items a month. All the work is developed artistically and the raw material is selected by coastal communities in the Savannah and in the Amazon. The concern with environmental preservation is not restricted just to selection of raw materials. Packages are made out of recycled paper and banana fibre. The brand is present in multi-brand shops in the country and recently inaugurated a virtual shop with distribution throughout Brazil.
According to the businesswoman, who is prepared to supply to women that range from those concerned with ecological matters, who like more rustic and natural accessories, to those that appreciate nature, but do not want to forget a little refinement, Mãos da Terra offers three different lines.
Line ‘Brazil Natura’ includes necklaces, bracelets and earrings defined as natural jewellery that is typically Brazilian, using feathers, wood, bone and natural fibre. Collection ‘Luxo Rústico’ mixes stones, seeds, wood, leather, bamboo, natural fibre and mother-of-pearl with metals, crystals, ceramic, satin and silk. The ‘Golden Collection’ line, in turn, mixes elements of nature with noble metals, guaranteeing a sophisticated air to the earrings, bracelets and rings that are limited edition.
