São Paulo – Toys, decorative items, pens, rubbers, teaching toys, films and other products inspired on Ancient Egypt were included in the Egyptomania exhibition, set up at the Egyptian and Rosicrucian Museum in Curitiba, Paraná, that may be visited up to late May.
“The idea of the exhibition is to show how Ancient Egypt is still present, through contemporary creations,” explained Vivian Tedardi, cultural supervisor at the Rosicrucian Order, the institute that owns the museum.
Vivian explains that the exhibition brings together items from Brazil and abroad that have elements that bring to mind the time of the Pharaohs, like dolls of mummies and of Queen Cleopatra, for example. The objects are part of the personal collection of archaeologist Moacir Elias Santos.
For those interested in a better understanding of what Egyptomania is, the museum is also promoting, on March 20th, at 3:00 pm, a roundtable with four specialists from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul.
“They should speak about the new way of studying Ancient Egypt, which is analysing its elements in the present time,” explained Vivian.
The themes to be discussed will be: “The History of Egyptomania in Brazil (XIX, XX and XXI Centuries), “Pyramids of Ancient Egypt: Images in the Daily Life of Brazilians (XX and XXI Centuries)”, “Egyptomania Present in Illustrations in the Brazilian Press Through the Figure of the Sphinx (XX and XXI Centuries)” and “Cleopatra: The Construction of a Myth”.
The Egyptian and Rosicrucian Museum, which celebrates its 20th anniversary on October 17th, promotes around four exhibitions a year. Those visiting the Egyptomania exhibition may also visit the museum’s permanent collection, with approximately 250 items, including a true mummy.
