São Paulo – Furniture exports from Brazilian companies affiliated with the Brazilian Furniture project amounted to US$ 62.3 million in the first ten months this year, up 8.5% from the same period in 2011. The program is promoted by the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brazil), the Federal District Wood and Furniture Industry Union and the Brazilian Association of Furniture Industries, and aims to promote exports.
The group comprises 52 companies and performed better than the overall industry in the country with regard to foreign sales. Furniture exports as a whole were down 3% from January to October as against the same period of last year, at US$ 432 million.
Brazilian Furniture exports increased the most to Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Angola. During the period, exports were up 53% to Mexico at US$ 1.3 million, up 17% to Colombia at US$ 8.1 million, up 16% to Peru at US$ 12.9 million, and up 16% to Angola at US$ 16.7 million. The project also targets South Africa, Chile, Emirates, United States and Russia.
