São Paulo – Mauritania, an Arab country in Africa, will receive USD 195 million to fund two projects, one focused on food security and the other on social protection. The financing will come from the OPEC Fund for International Development, according to a report published by Mauritania’s state news agency, AMI.
The financing agreements were signed by Mauritania’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, Abdallahi Ould Souleymane Ould Cheikh Sidiya, and the Fund’s President, Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, on Tuesday (23) in Vienna, Austria, on the sidelines of the Fund’s Development Forum.
The first agreement establishes a partnership framework with Mauritania for the 2026–2029 period, providing financing of up to USD 180 million. The initiative will focus on developing climate-resilient infrastructure projects that strengthen the food security system and support the advancement of rural value chains.
The second agreement with the OPEC Fund provides a USD 15 million credit facility to strengthen social protection networks for Mauritania’s most vulnerable groups and support the target population through an initiative known as the “Social Safety Nets Program.”
