São Paulo – Brazilian Tobacco manufacturing company Tabacos Marasca, which owns a plant in Venâncio Aires, in the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, has been selling to the United Arab Emirates and Egypt for four years. Now, it is seeking new clients in order to expand its presence in the Middle East and North Africa.
"We have good steady clients in the two markets [Emirates and Egypt] and we have already engaged in negotiation processes with two other Arab countries. We are deeply interested in increasing our business with the region," said the company’s export manager, Paulo Bertram.
Established in 1996, Tabacos Marasca began internationalizing its brand in 2006. Aside from the Arab countries, the enterprise exports to the United States, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, some of the Mercosur countries, Europe and Africa. Presently, China is the company’s leading target market, and the leading importer of tobacco from Brazil.
According to Bertram, foreign sales are closed by company agents who reside in the Far East, Europe and the United States.
"Brazil is now the world’s leading exporter of tobacco. People from all over the world come to the country seeking our tobacco, because of its quality and also the guarantee of supply," says the manager.
"Presently, the company has the infrastructure required to supply both the domestic market and the high standards of the world’s most discerning cigarette manufacturers. The company’s main focus is on continually investing in green leaves production, so as to ensure the supply of its products," he finishes off.
Tabaco Marasca has over 100 direct employees, roughly 450 temporary workers, and operates alongside 5,000 integrated growers. The company sells mostly tobacco of the Virginia type, used in cigarette manufacturing, and American blend, which according to Bertram is the most widely consumed worldwide.
