São Paulo – The Ministry of Tourism is investing R$ 25.3 million (US$ 12.7 million) in 18 agreements for the training of professionals to service foreign tourists to Brazil on occasion of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
According to a press release issued last Thursday (31st) by the ministry, the professional training projects will target taxi drivers, street vendors, municipal officers, artisans and lifeguards, and will include English and Spanish courses.
The cities covered will be Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Natal, Salvador, Fortaleza, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Recife, Jaboatão dos Guararapes and Olinda, in the state of Pernambuco, Porto Alegre and other cities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and Balneário Camboriú and Florianópolis, in the state of Santa Catarina.
In the press release, the national secretary for Tourism Development Programmes, Fábio Mota, said the next phase of the training project will cover workers in 120 municipalities in the vicinities of the World Cup host cities.
