São Paulo – Tunisia plans to increase phosphate production to 14 million tonnes anually by 2030, according to a report by TAP state news agency. The topic was raised during a government cabinet meeting on Wednesday (5), which aimed to plan the phosphate sector for the 2025-2030 period.
At the meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Kamel Madouri, an initial program for production, transport, and processing was approved, and monitoring mechanisms were established for its implementation.
Among the decisions are updating sulfuric acid units and improving their readiness, side implementing a maintenance programme for heavy machinery and trucks, as well as establishing an industrial unit in Skhira for the production of finely ground single superphosphate and granulated calcium phosphate, with an annual capacity of 250,000 tonnes.
It was also decided to create an industrial unit in Skhira for purified phosphoric acid production, with an annual capacity of 60,000 tonnes, and a cadmium removal unit in M’dhilla to purify phosphoric acid, with an annual capacity of 180,000 tonnes. There are also plans for the development of green ammonia projects and tax incentives, among other measures.
