São Paulo – The Agricultural Innovation Centre has been inaugurated last Wednesday (17th) in Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates. The facility will conduct scientific research and enter into partnerships to develop farming in the country. The information was released by Emirates News Agency (WAM), the Arab country’s official news agency.
According to Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, the Emirati minister of Environment and Water, who attended the inauguration, the centre is part of the ministry’s strategy to strengthen food security and attain sustainability in local food production.
According to WAM, Fahad said it is imperative to keep the country’s research works on agriculture abreast of advanced science and technological developments in order to discover new dimensions of the local agricultural sector.
The minister also stated that the research industry is a key pillar of the country’s overall development, pointing out that the Centre is poised to promote the latest agricultural advancements and maintain the sector’s sustainability through the integration of innovation into the field of agricultural research.
The centre will also exchange expertise with local and international research facilities such as the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (Icarda). Additionally, the new facility will take part in joint studies on segments of local agriculture, including research into multiple levels of salinity on the production of some salinity-tolerant agricultural and pastoral crops.
