São Paulo – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has launched the Singing in the Rain campaign to raise funds to see Palestinian refugees through the winter. The goal is to amass US$ 100,000 by December 31st.
The campaign aims to ensure alternative shelters to the 88,000 Palestinians who lost their homes during the latest conflicts in Gaza, protecting them from the cold, the rain and the snow. The donations will go to refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.
The UNRWA plans on using the money to provide blankets, raincoats, heaters and tarps. Donations can be made using Visa and Mastercard credit cards or the Paypal system.
Donations will only be accepted in US dollars and even small sums can be of great assistance to refugees. According to the UN agency, US$ 10 are enough to provide an entire family with blankets, and US$ 34 will suffice to feed a family of five for almost two weeks. A stove for a family can be purchased for US$ 50.
To donate, go to the UNRWA website (http://wesupportunrwa.org/brazil/donate.html), in Portuguese.
