São Paulo – Executives from mining company Vale do Rio Doce signed today the sales contract for their share of Hydroelectric Power Plant Foz do Chapecó, which is currently under construction. Vale has 40% of the enterprise and is going to sell their participation to energy company Furnas Centrais Elétricas.
The mill has already received its License for Installation (LI) and the construction should begin up to April. The enterprise also includes the participation of consortium Foz do Chapecó Energia, which includes energy companies CPFL Energia and Companhia Estadual de Energia Elétrica (CEEE), from the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. The generating capacity of the mill will be 855 megawatts (MW).
Vale do Rio Doce participates, in consortiums, in nine hydroelectric power plants, five already in operation. Last year, the five mills generated 1,300 GWh of energy, enough to supply one million medium-sized houses for one year. This information was supplied by a spokesperson for the company.
