São Paulo – The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) announced this Thursday (13) the approval of a US$ 1.5 billion loan to Klabin. According to the bank, the money will be used in the construction of a soft and hardwood pulp plant in Ortigueira, Paraná, with production capacity of 1.5 million tonnes a year.
According to the bank, the loan corresponds to 43.6% of the total of US$ 3.2 billion invested. BNDES also said it is negotiating an additional US$ 330 million instalment. The project includes the construction of a warehouse in Porto de Paranaguá to stock up to 80,000 tonnes of pulp.
The state development company pointed out the plant will create 1,400 job opportunities when it starts working in 2016. During the construction, a total 8,500 direct and indirect workstations are expected to be created.
