São Paulo – President Temer authorized the Brazilian Central Bank (BC) to import paper for currency and “metal coin”, as per the public notice published by the Federal Official Gazette (DOU) of this Friday (16). The provisional measure that allows for the purchase of the product from a foreigner supplier says that the “unfeasibility” or “reasonable uncertainty” as to meeting the demand for money supply characterizes it as an emergency situation for the purchasing of paper for currency and metal coins from suppliers in other countries.
In a statement sent to ANBA, Casa da Moeda do Brasil (Brazilian mint) said that it’s working to normalize the production contracts of paper money and coins. It’s expects these contracts to be signed in October and that Casa da Moeda can purchase the inputs for money production and then “eliminate” uncertainties. The president of Casa da Moeda, Alexandre Borges, is in Germany and Switzerland attending meetings with the companies that produced the Brazilian equipment.
