São Paulo – The Brazilian building material industry saw a 3.1% increase in sales May-on-May, according to the Brazilian Construction Material Industry Association (Abramat). May-on-April, sales were up 1.6%. Year-to-date, sales were up 4.4%, a rate that should be in keeping with the average expected for the remainder of the year: 4.5%.
“The industry’s performance this month is the third consecutive month-on-month increase, after a decline was recorded in February,” explains Abramat chairman Walter Cover. He says results in months to come will depend on government policies, such as consumption incentives and infrastructure projects.
