The Brazilian shoe industry posted 12.7% growth in the volume of exports in the first two months of this year as against the same period in 2007. In terms of revenues, sales grew 6.1%. The state of Ceará was the Brazilian state that most sold shoes abroad.
From the Newsroom* São Paulo – Brazilian airline TAM ended last year with a 10% increase in gross revenues, which totalled 8.5 billion reals (US$ 4.8 billion). In the year before last, the company posted revenues of 7.7 billion reals (US$ 4.4 billion). Performance last year was boosted by the expansion in international passenger and cargo.
The factory based in Rio de Janeiro reached the figure after selling almost 38,000 lorries to Bertin Group, one of the largest slaughterhouses in the country. Volkswagen exports commercial vehicles to 31 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.
Mueller Stoves, from the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, sells its products in the Middle East but has plans to grow in the region. Exports started in Jordan and Iraq three years ago. The company also exports to South and Central America, Africa, Japan and Europe.
Artist and businesswoman Celene Sitônio, from the city of João Pessoa, produces handbags, belts and luxury costume jewellery. The products are sold at sophisticated shops in Europe, Australia and Brazil. Now the artist plans to enter the market of the Emirates and also to win Arab consumers.
The company sold 36 Embraer 195 jets to a new Brazilian airline. The airline is currently being established by businessman David Neeleman, the founder of North American airline JetBlue. If all the options and rights are confirmed, the deal may reach US$ 3 billion.
