Agência Brasil Rio de Janeiro – Industrial production in Brazil grew 1.6% in June, in comparison with May. This was the fourth increase in a row in the month-to-month comparison. The increase was 6.3% in relation to June, 2004. The Monthly Industrial Survey released today (5) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE)

It all began when Syrian Afif Abduche arrived in Brazil in 1918. His first operation in the textile sector was the production of silk ties. Today, the Abduche family runs a textile industry, that makes material like jacquard and chenille, in the southeastern Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, and exports to various countries, among them the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
The South American leader in the production of thermoplastic resins, the company purchased around 400 tonnes of naphtha, one of the inputs used, on the foreign market in the second quarter of this year. The main suppliers were the countries in North Africa. In the first half, the company had profit of US$ 274 million, attributed mainly to the performance of exports, which grew 44%.
During the first semester, sales to Saudi Arabia increased 310% and reached more than US$ 15 million. To Algeria, shipments yielded almost US$ 8 million, value 23 times greater than that registered in the same period in the previous year. Trade promotion, made by the government and the private sector, is pointed out as the main responsible for performance.
The trade balance even had a surplus favourable for Brazil, rare feat in the machinery and equipments field. Even so, the president of the Brazilian Machinery Manufacturers Association is worried about the effects that may still be caused by the Brazilian real valorisation in relation to the American dollar.

The first shipment took place this week and went to Venezuela. This is the strategy of Macedo, in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, to grow on the foreign market. In the Middle East, the door of entry that was found was Yemen, to which the company exports 300 tonnes of chicken a month. This year the company should export 21,500 tonnes to over 20 destinations.
