The country had revenues of US$ 43.4 billion with foreign sales between January and May this year, against US$ 33.9 billion in the same period last year. Brazilian exporters are making an effort to continue supplying to their markets outside the country despite unfavourable exchange rates.

This increase is in comparison to the last quarter of 2004. If a comparison is made with the same quarter in 2004, the growth was 2.9%. Exports helped maintain the country GDP on the rise.

Geralcoop, established by former employees of the Companhia Geral da Indústria, started exporting wood cookers to Paraguay and Argentina at the end of last year. The cooperative is now after investors or loans to start producing gas cookers and sell them within and outside Brazil. Geralcoop is based in the city of Guaíba, in the southernmost Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, and has 170 associates.
The Brazilian company Scalina already sells to Lebanon, Kuwait and Emirates, and now wants to enter the Syrian, Qatari and Jordanian markets. As well as TriFil stockings, the company sell seamless lingerie of the brand Scala. In all, the company exports 20% of the 80 million pieces produced per year.
The money will be used in the remodelling of the wharf. It will be expanded so as to receive large vessels.
In all, the shipping generated US$ 237 million in the period between January and April 2005. According to the president of the Brazilian Institute of Gems and Precious Metals, Hécliton Henriques, the sector bets on opportunities existing in developing countries.
